Look at any list of biggest threats to the environment or biodiversity and non-native invasive species are always near the top. Yet in the Foothills Restoration Plan invasive species are buried. At all the various Foothills meetings and workshops, invasives seemed like one of the issues that there was the greatest consensus around. No one was defending them. Invasives need to be a bigger issue in the plan for the Foothills Project. Getting rid of them (the ones that we can) is going to be hard. It’s going to require prioritization, planning, teamwork, and creative approaches. And it needs to be done on the scale of a landscape or even larger. Invasive species cause too much damage to just be a footnote.
