Bike/pedestrian lanes are sorely needed along County Farm between Blackman Rd and Airport Rd. This section of road includes the business TAC, JSP, Technique, Chemetall and probably others which means there is tons of vehicular traffic at various times throughout the day. There is also a very large mobile home community (Windham Hills) with many residents who walk or bike to the stores on Airport road. These people very much need a better walkway/bikeway between their homes and the shopping district on N. Airport Rd.

I would like to see a trail on the East side of the City and including Blackman township. There are a lot of residents and businesses in this area who would use a trail for walking and biking. Basically the trail already exists by use of the roads around Lake Columbia; this would link up other systems with the help of some trails & the county road commission safety could be controlled by posting signs & controlling speed limits in the key areas. This would be a great promotion of health & exercise for the community!

There are always children and adults riding bikes or walking down Parnall Rd near Rod Mills park. It is a very busy road and it’s difficult to give walkers and riders enough room while there is so much traffic. Instead of waiting for something bad to happen, there needs to be a sidewalk installed.

Lansing Ave., I-94 to Parnall Rd.: use Lansing Ave. bridge reconstruction project to expand pedestrian opportunities through a non-motorized pathway, sidewalk, and/or bike lanes/road diet. Create pedestrian facilities at Parnall/Lansing intersection. Lansing Ave., Parnall Rd. to Van Horn Rd.: Enclose drainage on east side of roadway and run non-motorized pathway on this side of the road. Will serve pedestrian traffic to/from Stone Gate, Bird Land, NW Elementary, and Polly's. When combined with facilities linking to I-94, serves as a non-motorized corridor to/from City of Jackson. Could also find opportunities to link to non-motorized facilities at Grand River under I-94.

I would love to see official crosswalks on M60, by the elementary school at Star Rd and by the University around Teft Rd. It is so difficult to cross M60 safely as a pedestrian. I've tried to walk my kids to school but we've had some scary moments trying to get across M60. With the University and school all right there, there is a lot of pedestrian traffic and traffic does not seem to pay attention. It is dangerous. Sidewalks on both side of M60 would also be wonderful to help keep pedestrians safe and separate from traffic - I've seen pedestrians walking on the shoulders of M60, which also isn't safe because cars often illegally pass on the shoulders.

I disagree with your inventory data analysis for the Village of Concord which states "few streets have sidewalks". We formerly had a wide paved non-motorized trail which ran along the west side of South Main Street in the Village down Pulaski Rd. a mile to Swains Lake Park. When the County widened Pulaski Rd. our paved non-motorized trail disappeared and was replaced with a small bike lane. This a busy stretch of road and what was once a safe trail has been replaced with an unsafe bike lane. Bring our wide paved trail back before someone loses their life on your bike lane replacement.

I have registered several complaints about the intersection of Springport and Rives Junction. This is the intersection that was reconfigured a few years ago. I think the reconfiguration was the right choice, but because of limited sight distance, it is now a very dangerous location. Nearly every day I have near misses with someone either going through the stop sign, or assuming you are turning when you are not, and coming close to hitting passing traffic. Even though it would be a delay for me given the direction I drive from, I would be in favor of a 3-way stop sign here to ensure everyone has the ability to pass through the intersection safely.

Connecting both Clark Lake and Lake Columbia will add both safety for recreational activities and the opportunity to connect our community. The county is full of parks, rivers, woods, lakes, and other areas which each have their own trails, and it is great to see people working together to connect them. Let's get this done! Let's connect the Irish Hills to MacCready Preserve and the college and on to Falling Waters and beyond....Let's get Grass Lake connected to Concord, and Brooklyn to Rives Junction. Let's connect our community and make the treasures of Jackson County accessible to all. It's impossible to get speed limits reduced. Our roads become more and more unsafe all the time. We need trails.

I agree, we have pockets of great parks and trails and need to connect them. I am not a big fan of bike lanes on roads, would rather have legit tails like we get from the old rails to trails programs but a bike lane on a road is better than riding on the shoulder of busy roads. Railroad tracks that are not used should be made into trails to minimize the bike lanes required to get around.

The failure of defunct railroad Right of Ways many years ago was talked about which is water over the bridge now. That being said they said at the meeting that Consumers Energy is open to the idea of permitting walk/bike paths onto their ROWs which until now was unheard of. There are at least one currently in Clarke Lake proceeding North to Jackson. Another possibility is acquiring the Meridian Road ROW next to 127.

The stretch of Horton Rd beginning around Happy Valley and going through Summit Twp to Weatherwax connects to a number of residential neighborhoods, however, traffic on this bit of road often moves up to 60mph, with no shoulder or sidewalk on any portion of the road. The area within a half mile of Polly's especially should be more accommodating to pedestrians and cyclists, as a number of local businesses exist here that can currently only be accessed by car. If Summit were to allow increased density by reduce speed limits, getting rid of parking minimums and setbacks, and building sidewalks/crossings, this area of Summit might be a pleasant and livable public space instead of a highway for transient SUVs.

Jason Hoffman

A once widely used section of trail exists here, which sits on an easement controlled by Consumer's Energy. Developing this portion of trail would give a number of neighborhoods easy access to the Falling Waters Trail, and provide a non-motorized transportation option into the city. Traveling by bicycling along Horton Rd currently feels unsafe and is somewhat indirect for bicycle travel.

The country club hills, golf view hills and 340 farms are only accessible safely by vehicle. This would be a great investment in creating a path from greater Jackson to these neighborhoods.

Bike lanes do not exist *at all* in the busiest parts of town. There needs to be dedicated lanes and proper infrastructure to allow cyclists to access the *entire* city, not just a few blocks downtown.

Definitely agree. The level of potholes in the existing bike lanes makes it very unsafe to actually use. Most bikers I see in the city use the sidewalks, but even those aren't in very good shape.

Agreed. My route to get somewhat safely downtown consists of rail trail, pot hole ridden side streets, parking lots, side walks and no bike lane whatsoever. I would love to have my kid's ride with me to the library but not until there are some better routes.

Agreed. We definitely need more bike user friendly paths downtown and surrounding areas. I do like the newer path that goes from Consumers to the inner city trail. I would like to see some surface renewal along the inner city trail, as it's getting old and cracked.

current bike lanes aren't maintained enough to ride in so hard to argue for more. need an effective street sweeper on route first

You can park at Parkside and commute to the trail from there. But yes, that park is small.

The trail itself is very slanted in places and difficult for people with disabilities to navigate safely. We need some lighting on the trails as well.

It would be even better to have safety cameras as well to deter criminals from targeting people on trails.

There should be a stronger connection between the trail at Consumers Energy Office and the Arts Armory.

There are few (if any) facilities in this part of the county. We should explore how to connect this part of the county/these townships into the non-motorized network.
